2016 - Inter District Golf Competition

 HAPPY FRIDAY

The last Friday of the month of September 2016 was certainly a happy day for the golfers from ESRA North. Playing in the ESRA All Island Inter District Competition, the All Island Cup was won by North members Roger Scofield and Les O'Hara with the Best 2 scores from a team of 4.  And what made it extra special was that they were a team of only 2!
The Best District Team was also won by North team of Eddie and Jill Patch with Alun and Barbara Bowen. And to top it all off, North had the Best District Average and so that Plaque went to North too.
Eric Gulliksen from South East had a good day, winning The Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin. He was also awarded The Lionel Clark Trophy for the Best Scratch Score. His daughter Kaye Roberts had the Longest Drive in the Ladies Division. I wonder if it's in the genes.

Other scores were:

Nearest the Pin - Ladies Vicky Cartwright

  First Second Third
Gents Division One Les O'Hara (NO) Bill Tubman (SE) Eric Gulliksen (SE)
Division Two Andy Sheward (NO) Alun Bowen (NO) Roger Scofield (NO)
Ladies Jill Patch (NO) May Battersby (NO) Vicky Cartwright (NO)

The North TeamOther district winners were Bill Tubman and Kaye Roberts(SE), Fraser Richardson(SW), Kevin Booth(CE), and Jill Patch and Andy Sheward(NO)
The weather was a bit "iffy" and some of the golfers were caught out in a squall around lunchtime but, all in all, it was kind, considering what the forecast for Friday had been all the week.
As usual the Maioris staff were very attentive, especially Antonio, even though they were very busy organising a big competition the next day.
So, the Northern golfers went away happy to have snaffled the Cup and other trophies from South East again, and the South Easterners went home vowing to wrench it back again in 2017.
Well- we will see!
