The Wren
Many people seem surprised that this little gem occurs here in Mallorca. The reason for this is probably because in the UK, the Wren is a common garden bird, whereas here they are a bird of the mountains and coastal scrub.
They are also quite timid birds often being heard but not seen. They do pop up onto fences and tree trunks to sing out their amazingly loud and trilling song, incredible for one of the smallest species around.
They are a reddish brown with a distinctive stubby tail which is often cocked when at rest.
It is a real challenge to see one although I do get occasional glimpses of them in my local park at Mondrago.
