Bird of the Month - June 2016
The Balearic Warbler
A very rare view of this much sought-after species here in Mallorca. Balearic Warbler is always at the top of the list in every birdwatcher’s notebook of birds to see on the Island. However, many birders go home empty handed having failed to see this enigmatic skulker. They are really difficult to see, let alone photograph, so many congratulations to Bob Freeman for capturing this little beauty.
They inhabit the coastal scrub and are mostly spotted disappearing head-first into the shrubbery, so a rear view is normally all you get to see. In Spring they do pop up on top of bushes to sing out advertising for a mate, so this is the best time of the year to see them.
