2015 - An evening with Lord Jeffrey Archer

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR ESRA

It was certainly an event with a difference last Wednesday evening for some 100 ESRA members, special guests and friends at the Arenal Yacht Club as the acclaimed international bestseller, Jeffrey Archer charmed his audience following an excellent dinner in the Club´s restaurant.

Lord Jeffrey Archer is staying at his island home to complete his next bestseller in the successful Clifton Chronicle series and ESRA had the privilege of his company for what was described by many as “an amazing evening”, “interesting and funny” The Yacht Club proved to be the perfect location for the event as the guests arrived to a welcome carva and to chat and mingle before taking their seats at the well laid out tables. Guests were also delighted to meet and welcome Dame Mary Archer, now Chairman of the Science musuem in London who was a surprise guest and did not want to miss the opportunity of being with her close friends and seeing her husband speak to what was clearly an audience of fans.ESRA was also delighted to welcome Andrew Gwatkin, the British Consulate-General and Gillian Brion, the Vice Consul together with Kimberly Marshall, the U:S. Consular Agent, Jason Moore, the managing Editor of theMajorca Daily Bulletin but also William Graves and Laura Stadler who writes her own columns for the paper.

For many it was a chance to meet their favourite author and to hear how difficult it is to become a published author but that he “was blessed with the gift of writing” It was not only interesting to learn how the books developed and that many of the characters in the books are based on “real” people. It was also hilarious as the stories unfolded of Jeffrey´s time in promoting his first books in the US and the dedication needed to write a book. Not only did we hear about the writing but Jefferey had the audience laughing loudly even as he touched upon the political scene reading out some letters that were so funny it was hard to believe that they were true, but they were!!

It was a standing ovation as Jeffrey completed his talk and took time out to walk around and chat to members and guests at each table signing their books and having his photograph taken. It was soon time to leave as writing starts again next day. It is always an early start so it was a final thank you to our honoured guest. It was pleasing to see that everyone went home with a smile on their face on whatwas a night to remember.
